Developmental Editing
A developmental edit will focus on the structure of your manuscript rather than the language. Developmental edits should usually occur prior to a copyedit, though unlike a copyedit, they are not essential for every manuscript. You can expect an analysis of your plot structure (i.e. identification of plot holes or inconsistencies), pacing (i.e. does the story flow well? Is the ending rushed?), characterization (i.e. are the character’s actions and dialogue consistent, do they have a compelling story arc?) and narrative style.
Suggestions you can expect in a developmental edit may be:
– How to resolve plot holes
– How to strengthen characterization
– Where to trim (or cut) scenes and where to add more depth
– Dialogue assessment
– Finding the right narrative voice
– Genre assessment
– Identification of repeated grammatical or stylistic issues (to be rectified in a copyedit)
– Fact-checking (if required)
Please note whether you need US English or UK/Australian English and if you have a style manual to adhere to.
What you receive:
A Microsoft Word document with Track Changes
A PDF report reviewing your plot, pacing and characterisation.
Pricing:
Developmental editing starts at $0.012 per word (Australian Dollars).

Copy and Line Editing
A line edit is an analytical review of your writing, line by line. It reviews structure, tone, voice, and syntax at a sentence level. Are the word choices correct? Does the character’s speech reflect their personalities? A line edit is generally performed prior to a copy edit, and its main purpose is to season your writing with just a touch of extra spice to really enhance all the flavours in your manuscript. It focuses on the stylistic elements of writing and language.
A copy edit is the most important edit of a manuscript, particularly if you are self-publishing. A copy edit will make sure that your style is consistent throughout your manuscript and tidy your grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. It’s more focused on the mechanics of writing, or, to continue the analogy, the presentation on the plate.
Please note whether you need US English or UK/Australian English and if you have a style manual to adhere to.
What you receive:
A Microsoft Word document with Track Changes
Pricing:
Line or Copy Editing starts at $0.01 per word (Australian Dollars).
Combination Line and Copy Editing from $0.015 per word (Australian Dollars)

Feeling Overwhelmed?
On a Budget?
Feeling overwhelmed? Remember, not every manuscript needs every type of edit. If you’re not sure what you might need, send me a message, and we can have a chat to work out what your best options are to suit your needs and budget.
The overall cost for editing will vary depending on the length of your manuscript or project and the type of editing you require.
I aim to keep my pricing reasonable and affordable so that writers of all levels and experience can access editing services without breaking the bank. Remember, all my pricing is in Australian Dollars, and not US Dollars, so please keep this in mind when converting to your local currency if you are based elsewhere. I can also offer payment plans where necessary.
I am also more than happy to do a short sample edit free of charge so that you can be assured that we’re a good fit.
To obtain a definitive quote (or recommendation), please send through a sample of writing (approximately 10 pages), and nominate the length of your manuscript.
Let’s create something together!
